Newspaper notes

  • 2 sizes of newspapers, first size is like school newspaper called "broad sheet".
  • Other size newspaper is called "tabloid".
  • The flag has the name of the paper in it.
  • The top photo is called the teaser.
  • Folio- W. Charles Akins High School under teaser photo.
  • Folio- The title of the newspaper, the date, page #, name of the section, a slogan or motto.
  • Headlines need to draw attention, be creative.
  • Subheadlines should be below headlines, subheadline gives more details about the story.
  • Photo captions have caption headlines, grabs attention, gives inside about the picture, give credit to the photographer, 2 sentences makes a good caption, 1st sentence describes what goes on in the picture (who, what, when, where, why, how) and 2nd sentence is background info about the picture.
  • Bi line should have the persons name and the position they are.
  • Have to have stories.
  • Info graphics, info in graphic form, additional info not in the story, in fun little creative box.
  • The table of contents should be on the front page, the volume number and the issue #, and barcode (?)
  • The staff box is in every paper, the names of staff and position, organizations we belong to, and the policy is written in the staff box.
