Newspaper notes

• 2 sizes of newspapers, first size is like school newspaper called "broad sheet".
• Other size newspaper is called "tabloid".
• The flag has the name of the paper in it.
• The top photo is called the teaser.
• Folio- W. Charles Akins High School under teaser photo.
• Folio- The title of the newspaper, the date, page #, name of the section, a slogan or motto.
• Headlines need to draw attention, be creative.
• Subheadlines should be below headlines, subheadline gives more details about the story.
• Photo captions have caption headlines, grabs attention, gives inside about the picture, give credit to the photographer, 2 sentences makes a good caption, 1st sentence describes what goes on in the picture (who, what, when, where, why, how) and 2nd sentence is background info about the picture.
• Bi line should have the persons name and the position they are.
• Have to have stories.
• Info graphics, info in graphic form, additional info not in the story, in fun little creative box.
• The table of contents should be on the front page, the volume number and the issue #, and barcode (?)
• The staff box is in every paper, the names of staff and position, organizations we belong to, and the policy is written in the staff box.

Front pages of the world

1. The Oregonian because the title is cool and I love Oregon.
2. My favorite headline is "Sea lions may lose their spot" because it talks about how to save the sea lions and it's so in detail.

4. They all have columns of texts that look very boring.
5. The pictures on the front pages vary from being tall to wide to big to small.

What would you change if you were working on that book?: I would change the pictures. They're all blurry and everyone has red eyes.

Why would you or would you not like to go to that school?: I would like to go to it because the volleyball team is successful, but then  again I wouldn't like to go to it because the photography program doesnt look very fun.

Magazine covers

1. Early magazine covers- The modeled these covers after book covers most of the time. They are richly decorated and symmetric. They dedicated the opening page to a title and table of contents. They also put descriptive words to describe the magazine on the cover too.

2. The poster cover- The cover picture wasnt related to the magazine, it depicted a "mood" in the reader. Not alot of words on the cover. The covers have to have a single focus, with a hint of a theme. Gives some kind of physical impression on you.

3. Pictures married to type- Lots of words on the cover. Lots of lines on the cover, cover lines draw attention to the cover. Looks like an advertisement cover. Photos play the role for the cover. Color seperation. Large title with models face covering it.

4. In the forest of words- Very vivid and cluttered. Cover lines were as important as the cover picture. Some have cover lines larger then the title itself. The cover reflects the culture of the time being. Bold graphic covers. Image and cover lines overlap usually.

I think this is a good happy photo because the subject is smiling.

I think this is a good building photo because the "dark" black and white color makes it look older.

I think this represents Akins because the mascot is an eagle.
